During the pandemic, Doordarshan re-released some of its classic shows, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and they quickly garnered millions of views. Social media was full of folks in their 30s and 40s talking about the continuing allure of these stories.

Perhaps some of this is nostalgia - many of us grew up being told these stories, reading them, and later, watching them on TV. But a lot is also the sheer depth and breadth of these stories within stories.

There is love and loss, adventure, fighting & making up, drama, battles, negotiation, victory & defeat, challenges & creative solutions... There are numerous ideas to debate with older children too, for instance, gender roles, body safety, the ideas of duty & morality.

As a tribute to the lasting fascination of these epics, we have brought out a limited edition set of Ramayana peg dolls. They make for great collectibles, additions to your bommai golu, or props for storytelling sessions with your little one.

We also have a Ramayana combo that has the peg dolls set, a children's re-telling of the Ramayana with delightful illustrations, Ramayana Snap cards, and a memory puzzle featuring interesting characters such as Jatayu & Kumbhkaran!

Bommai Golu is the practice of arranging and displaying handcrafted dolls (bommais) on multi-level steps over the nine days of Navratri. It is widely celebrated in South India, particularly in Tamil and Telugu families.

What we love about this practice is that apart from the spiritual and cultural aspect, there is a wonderful element of play here! Tiny microgreens are grown in the days before Navratri to create little forests. Scenes from epic stories are set up as tableaus with the dolls. And the best part? Kids of the house are given a little corner to set up their toys & dolls!

This Navratri, we made a little Golu display of our own featuring our little toys & dolls. Isn't it cute?

Here is an exciting edition of our Co-Create with shumee series, presenting wonderful play & learn ideas by talented parents! This woodland-themed activity is the brainchild of Anushikha Bansal, a DIY blogger and homeschooling mom to 3-year-old Atharv.

This activity is not just a fun artsy, craftsy outing for your little one but also a great way to teach alphabets, phonics, comparison, L to R progression, and more. Ideal for ages 3 to 6.

We put in a lot of thought and effort in creating these weekly mailers for you. Do tell us what you think of them? We're all ears!
